AB To achieve this objective, 400 private practitioners received training
through a series of one day training workshops organized throughout
North West Frontier Province of Pakistan over an 18 months project
period. These practitioners are considered an ideal focal point for
HIV/AIDS training because of the respect and confidence they have within
the community, and because of their ability to communicate prevention
messages. Their clinics have been utilized for the display and
distribution of information, education and communication materials about
HIV/AIDS. Where appropriate, they have been providing one to one
counselling patients thought to be at risk of HIV infection,
particularly patients with STDs, truck drivers and bachelors. A
Post-intervention follow up demonstrated a significant impact of the
Project.
